EVENT: ST. KITTS FOLKLORE ACADEMY
 GENERAL EVENT INFORMATION
Start: Saturday, March 14, 2009;
End: Friday, October 14, 2005;
 DESCRIPTION

The St. Kitts Folklore Academy will be teaching youngsters the dances of the masquerades one of our most prominent folklore traditions.

Classes will be held at the Tucker-Clarke Primary School once per week for two hours on Saturdays from 10 am to 12 pm. Both males and females from the ages of 7-12 are invited to participate.

Classes will begin on 14th March 2009. These classes will give children an opportunity to learn one aspect of their culture. They would come to appreciate the history of the masquerades and learn the meaning and significance of the dances, the music and the costumes.

The classes will be held in a safe controlled environment among their peers and will be taught by experienced masquerade dancers. Dance students including females are expected to wear shorts for the dance sessions and appropriate shoes such as sneakers. Skirt and Sandals are NOT allowed.

The Academy will showcase the progress of the students to parents, relatives, friends and the general public in a dance performance at a suitable venue.

Students will be prepared to join any of the masquerade troops during the annual Carnival celebrations should they desire. There is a registration fee of $15.00 and a fee of $30.00 per month for the classes. This is an excellent opportunity to have the youths occupied in a worthwhile and constructive activity which I am sure they will enjoy.

Should you have any queries please feel free to call Shashi Wigley 668-6600 or Dennis Weekes 661-6135.

Yours sincerely Shashi Wigley - Director.
