| Cuban Sports Scholarships |

The Government of the Republic of Cuba through its St Kitts and Nevis-based Embassy, is inviting applications for two sports scholarships (one male and one female) to be taken at the Cuban International School of Physical Education and Sports ( EIEFD).
Applicants must be under 25, from a low-income family, be HIV negative,not pregnant and have no criminal records. Interested persons must also submit a copy of a High School Graduate Certificate, birth certificate, health certificate, police record and the like.
Application deadline is Tuesday, August 31, 2010 and interested persons can contact Human Resources Department at 467- 1036 or 467-1323 to fill out appropriate application for and for further information. |

| BVI - Department of Education summer institute |
|

|
The Department of Education announces Summer Institute 2010 as a prelude to the 2010/ 2011 school year. The registration and opening ceremony will take place on Monday 23rd August, 2009 at the H. L. Stoutt Community College Auditorium at 8:30 a.m. and 9:00 a.m. respectively.
All principals, guidance officers and teachers are to attend. The Summer Institute will conclude on Friday 27th August. Details for these days will be given at the opening session.

| BVI - Upcoming fishing workshops |
|
|
|
The Conservation and Fisheries Department will be hosting a Vertical Long-Line Fishing and Capturing of Flying Fish course on August 25 – 27 with local fisher folks.
This workshop will consist of two parts; a half-day in-class session at the Conservation and Fisheries Department’s conference room and an overnight field practice session in which participants will be at sea aboard various local fishing vessels.
The course is part of the Department’s effort to keep the fisher folks of the Virgin Islands abreast of new fishing methods and on-going fishing practices.

| BVI - Public invited to Marine Awareness Guide 2nd Edition Launching |

The Ministry of Natural Resources and Labour and the Conservation and Fisheries Department is inviting residents and visitors to a reception for the launching of the “Marine Awareness Guide” second edition, on Thursday, August 26, 2010 at Drake’s Point, Fort Burt Hotel.
The Marine Awareness Guide is an annual publication and features marine habitats, marine species, marine-related laws, conservation practices, potentially dangerous marine organisms and safety measures.

| BVI - Property tax court hearing dates |

The Inland Revenue Department is asking the public to take note of upcoming court hearing dates, which have been scheduled for property owners who wish to object to the assessment on their properties.
Property owners in Tortola, Anegada, Jost Van Dyke, northern and southern cays are reminded that the hearing of objections for the assessment of 2010 property tax will be held before the magistrate at the Road Town court house on Monday 6th September at 10 a.m.
Owners objecting to assessment of properties in Virgin Gorda may do so before the magistrate in the Virgin Gorda court house on Monday 4th October, 2010 at 10 a.m.

| BVI- 2010 Caribbean nutrition promotion competition |

The Ministry of Health and Social Development invites residents to enter the 2010 Caribbean Nutrition Promotion Competition. All entries must have a Food and Nutrition-related theme, and must pertain to an activity that was carried out in the Territory within the last five years. Suggested categories may include:
• agriculture, nutrition, or World Food Day
• intervention projects in the school or community
• public education campaigns
• audio-visual material
Entries should reach the Ministry of Health by September 15. Individuals, community groups, and schools are encouraged to submit entries. Rules and other information related to the 2010 Caribbean Nutrition Promotion competition can be obtained by calling the Ministry on 494-3701 extension 2070 or 3122, or the BVI Health Services Authority on 852-7580.
