CHARLESTOWN, Nevis – CG REBELS put the disappointment of a narrow lost in game two on Saturday (Oct. 31) behind them to rebound and capture game three and also the Malcolm Guishard Memorial Basketball title for the third consecutive year last night (Nov. 3) at Cotton Ground.
Feeling the heat was the Bronx Crisis team which could not recapture the enthusiasm that saw them level the best-of-three finals with a one-point victory on Saturday. The Rebels scored four quick points in the game’s opening seconds and, despite a strategic time-out by the Crisis coach, never let up on the pressure.
Even though Everson Webbe risked further injury to his ankle by joining Crisis’ effort to make a game of it, his efforts were in vain. The Rebels were too determined and held on for a commanding 71-52 victory.
Jennerson France led the way for the winners with 24 points while Donford Wilkinson scored 22 points and pulled down 10 rebounds. For the losers, Matthew Harding scored nine points while Kelvin Bramble and Kervin Smith contributed eight each.
At the ceremony, which followed, CG Rebels collected a winners’ trophy and plaque along with $500 and team medals. Bronx Crisis collected a trophy, medals and $300, and third-placed CG Massives received medals and $200.
France was named Most Valuable Player of the finals while his team-mate Justin Jeffers had the most rebounds in the tournament and Webbe scored the most points (118).
