Terrific Trinis take WICB Tournament title in style

T&T remain as the regional champions of limited over cricket.
PROVIDENCE, Guyana -- For the second straight year Trinidad and Tobago have been crowned kings of limited-overs cricket in the Caribbean.

Fresh from their wonderful display at the Champions League in India last month, the Daren Ganga-led unit put in another clinical performance on Thursday night to defeat Guyana by a whopping 81 runs and win the the West Indies Cricket Board's President's Cup One-Day Tournament.

Led by a superb allround display from Keiron Pollard, the Trinidadians amassed 286-6 from their 50 overs and then dismissed the Guyanese for 205 off 45.4 overs to win the day/night event at the Guyana National Stadium, Providence.

Pollard, the powerfully-built six-footer, scorched 57 and then returned to snatch three wickets to spark celebrations in his camp.

In the batting, left-hander Darren Bravo topscored with a quality 76, skipper Daren Ganga maintained the momentum with 46, and Denesh Ramdin enhanced his reputation as a finisher, peppering the boundaries with a superb 44 not out.

Set a demanding asking rate of almost six runs per over, the home team was burdened by the pressure of the target and fell well short.

Captain Ramnaresh Sarwan stroked a classy 59 but his team was outplayed in the grand finale as they chased the highest score of the tournament.
