    Job Description


    Under the direction of the Vice President, the Senior HR Generalist plays a crucial role in supporting the human resources function on campus in Barbados. The role serves as the onsite HR representative for RUSM Barbados, providing HR support in key areas of human resource management, including, but not limited to, immigration, recruiting, benefits administration, onboarding/offboarding, training and development, and other HR activities as needed. This position oversees the immigration process for international hires and serves as the resource for country specific immigration processes in the Caribbean. This position requires building strategic partnerships with local government regulations and practices and requires strong communication and negotiation skills. This position must be able to work successfully in a matrixed environment. This position engages in confidential organizational design and restructures which requires a high degree of confidentiality, judgement and discretion.


    Responsibilities


    Contract Administration:


    • Maintains a database of all contracted local and expatriate positions


    • Tracks expiration dates of contracted employment and probationary periods, and issues contract renewals, notices of non-renewal and letters of confirmation of probation accordingly


    Immigration:


    • Collect and process all required documentation timely to each government body as required via their online immigration system. This may also require traveling to the government office(s) as needed


    • Act as liaison for all new hires, including family members, who will require immigration documentation and will be required to complete the work permit process


    • Schedule meetings with local government contacts on behalf of our colleagues to assist with the immigration process


    • Log and track all documents and their expiration date to ensure that renewals for all required staff are completed timely and completely for immigration purposes


    • Advise management at all times of progress on the immigration process, with the understanding that anomalies and/or challenges with the completion of immigration paperwork is addressed immediately, including recommended solutions


    • Ensure all new hires have the appropriate health insurance coverage required for immigration completion


    • Conduct onsite training and ongoing information sessions on all HR processes, including immigration processes for faculty and staff


    Talent Acquisition:


    • Manage the recruitment process for local on-island positions within all established SLAs. Delivers onisland full-cycle recruiting from sourcing to preparation of final offer and for the on-boarding of all employees


    • Coordinate with hiring managers to identify staffing needs and candidate selection criteria


    • Form relationships with hiring managers to ensure clear expectations for candidates and interviewers


    • Responsible for advertising and opening requisitions via applicant tracking system


    • Devise and implement sourcing strategies for qualified applicants, screen applicant, schedule and conduct interviews; administer tests; check references, background and applicant qualifications


    • Conduct compensation and benefits analysis for roles with Total Rewards and the Hiring Manager to ensure offers are competitive to local market and aligned with internal equity


    • Coordinates the development of job descriptions via JDXpert


    • Ensure alignment with all stakeholders including Total Rewards, Finance and hiring managers prior to extending an offer


    • Implement new employee orientation programs


    General:


    • Ensures all HR processes are documented and consistent across the medical schools unless legal requirements differ


    • May support projects that bring consistency across the Med/Vet vertical regarding HR processes and procedures


    • Works closely with business unit to improve work relationships, builds morale, increases productivity and retention


    • Administers the local compensation plan and colleague contracts/interim letters. Helps managers determine promotional increases, market adjustments, local bonus administration and transfers within established guidelines


    • Ensure personnel transactions are submitting in timely manner via HRIS system


    • Responds to and resolves colleague relations issues or refers them to our Coaching Resource Center as necessary


    • Acts as a member of the CRT (Critical Response Team) or other emergency/disaster team to ensure the integrity of colleague data is maintained in the event of an emergency. May act as lead in the Planning vertical


    • Establish an on-campus HR presence by participating in onsite campus engagement events, staff meetings and attends other meetings as necessary/needed


    • Serves as key leader on local engagement initiatives


    • Assures compliance with country specific law and labor practices.


    • Performs other duties as assigned


    • Complies with all policies and standards


    Qualifications:


    • Must be currently eligible to work in St. Kitts


    • Bachelor's Degree Required


    • Master's Degree in Human Resource Management, Business Administration, Labor Law, Organizational Development Preferred


    • 7+ years , showing progressive experience with increased responsibility Required


    • 2+ years of experience involving international compensation and benefits programs Required


    • 2+ years of experience in immigration, talent acquisition, colleague relations etc. Required


    • Excellent written and verbal skills required


    • Ability to work independently and with minimal supervision- Familiar with Microsoft Office products


    • Strong collaborator and positive/can-do approach to work products


    • Quick learner


    • Ability to develop and manage interpersonal relationships at all levels of the company and to demonstrate strong client advising skills


    • High level of customer service skills


    • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal


    • Capacity to apply discretion and maintain a high level of confidentiality when handling sensitive information


    • Ability to demonstrate good judgement


    • GPHR highly desirable, PHR, SPHR, other HR certifications (such as CIPD) Preferred
