Comment: It appears to me that the scandalously low detection rate for homicides is clearly sending the wrong message to the perpetrators. What is needed is some basic but thorough investigation techniques helped by simple but effective technology (e.g. Comparing microscope fitted with a decent digital camera to find out which guns were used in a crime) and decent training for the officers/forensic researchers involved. The cost of this could be very low if the right approach is taken, and the results quite spectacular. I, for once, would be willing to help if I was asked to! Else call in Dirty Harry... |
