Comment: This young girl's life seems to have been nothing but tragedy. She seems to be the same person whose photograph appeared when a young man was shot and killed by Police some time last year. Now, she has herself met an untimely death. Someone obviously felt that she was expendable and made the decision to end her life. While I am uncomfortable with the fact that she was at some party when she ought to have been at home, I cannot blame her for being there because whosoever killed had no right to do it. Her attendance at a part, at a time when many feel she should have been at home, does not absolve the killer. I don't have enough information to determine whether or not I know her relatives but my heart truly goes out to them.

Comment: There seems to be, combined with sympathy and concern, a strong undercurrent of victim-blaming, and family-blaming. Folks, the blame needs to be directed to the perpetrators of this crime. They are responsible. Every time someone questions what Unique was doing, where she was doing it, or why her family hasn't protected her from her choices, it dilutes the real issue - violence. I am quite certain that nobody asks to be killed in such a manner. Period.
